I am a Mom. That is my greatest of all services. But I am also the steward for my two senior dogs, Ollie and Jack. Ollie is almost blind and partially deaf. He must be watched at all times because if I leave the room, he gets up to look for me. Jack has all of his faculties, but we just learned he has asthma. He is on respiratory medication and takes a ventilator daily. Buddy is our cat. He is young and healthy and so gentle. And finally we have Daisy, who is a male rabbit, and I morphed his name into Data once I found the male evidence. He loves his veggies and snacks, and when I come in the morning to clean his area, he bites my ankles until I give him something. It is my responsibility to see that all of these animals receive the best possible care that I can give them. That is my calling, and I know this. Each one of these animals came to me in such unique ways that there was never a question that they were supposed to be with me. I have always had animals and through the years, they taught me, through trial and error, how to be a better steward. It is my greatest honor to care for these pure precious creatures, even though I’ll be the first to admit they drive me nuts and it’s a lot of work. But when you know it’s your calling, it becomes a labor of love and there is no alternative.
